No More Prosthetics

Following the Dutch scientists who have genetically engineered pork from swine stem cells, Japanese scientist have managed to grow teeth on mice.

Researches of Tokio University of Sciences implanted the prepared stem cells into the jawbones of mice and were able to see a tooth tip erupt after the fifth week. The erupted tip grew into an actual tooth following the seventh week. The experiment was repeated a few times and it was observed that a tooth erupting after the experiment was fully functional and not in any way different from actual teeth. The experiment is expected to pioneer “tooth-growing” experiments on humans, before those to form other organs within a person’s body to replace their deteriorated ones, such as the heart, lungs or kidneys; as stated by a research published on National Academy of Sciences Journal.

Who knows, someday we might be able to ditch our prosthetics, linings or decayed teeth and grow real, healthy and good-looking teeth of our own instead.
