What Is Implant?

As cavities cause gum problems and tooth loss, replacing the missing tooth is included in dental treatment methods as a must.

Restorations that imitate crown part have been applied for hundreds of years for replacing missing teeth. But tooth take place with two parts: crown on the maxilla and root. “Roots support the maxilla and forward the pressure of crown to the maxilla. If the root is gone, melting of the maxilla cannot be prevented.”
When we are chewing something, the food that we are eating send impulses to the brain by making pressure. Most of the time people who does not have any teeth but using dentures with palates say that they are not enjoying their food because of this reason.  Those impulses cannot be forwarded with prosthesis.

During the process of prosthesis and bridge making, side teeth should be cut and those restorations gets old. As a consequence, cavities on lower teeth and gum problems occur. Those problems pushed researchers to implants, which are independent from side teeth and can completely imitate original tooth with crown and root.
When Branemark and his friend saw that bone is accepting titanium, they invented those artificial roots.
Implants got far in time in the aspects of variation according to area of mouth and their design. Today, success of an implant, which was made under ideal conditions, is %99.
How Are Implants Producing?
Implant technology is an accepted sector, which has investments on it in the world. As a result, implant is a product, which developed to be used.  As usage increases, production increases too and as production increases, competition starts. As a result of this competition, companies raise their market share by presenting differences in their products and designs.

Consumers of implants are doctors. Since doctors apply those implants to patients, they are also consumers indirectly. So, patients want to know about implants that applied them and they start to ask questions like “How is the quality?” “How are they producing?” “Which brand?” “From which country?”… They are doing the research generally online or they are asking suggestions of their surroundings.
However There Is An Ignored Question: What is the Aim Of Implants?
Implants are made to match with a function in the body, just like implants that are placing after broken arm or after problems on vertebral column. There is no difference between them. Common feature is holding the bone.
Teeth Hold Bones Too
Imagine a big wheel. Teeth take place in the mouth like gears on a wheel. When we loose one of those gears, we need a new one that can function instead of lost one. It’s because our body does not accept that hole and wants to fill that place immediately. Teeth start to slip in the direction of empty place, and then problems begin. After loosing a tooth it should be replaced quickly. People developed prosthesis for hundred years to replace missing teeth.
Researches of Branemark and his friends were revolutionary in this field. They proved that there is a connection between implant and bone tissue in 1969. Implants are titanium products and titanium and bone can connect. After this has proven, titanium got shaped, surface structure developed and got close to real tooth as function and esthetic.
Implants like titanium sticks are applying to the body after getting through several steps. We will explain those steps one by one.
Titanium sticks become implant screws by CNCs. Those screws have different designs and every design has different aims.
Those designs are developed to make doctor practice easier.
Implants are controlled one by one or one by 10. Differences of companies come out here. Some of them control every single implant, but some of them controls one implant 10 or more. Faulty one’s production stops.
Surfaces of implants get into sandblasting to imitate root surface of the tooth. Sandblasting is so important. Some companies use aluminum oxide; some of them use calcium content powder for blasting. Roughened process happens by blasting thousands of motes.
It gets more roughened by acidification. All these roughing process are done to make connection between bone and implant close to original one.
Implants should be sterilized to apply in the mouth. After packaging, they get through several sterilization operations and then they are ready to use.
