Ratón Pérez: The Hispanic “Tooth Fairy”

Ratón_Pérez_-_Cover_Page The Tooth Fairy is a common name in many countries, but that excludes the Hispanic ones. Hispanic countries have a different counterpart: A mouse.

The first story about Perez the Mouse was written by a priest in 1984, when the king’s little son lost his first tooth. The king made a celebration out of it and thus was created “Perez the Mouse”.

While Perez is known to many Hispanic children, his methods vary among countries. For example, the children in Argentina put their teeth in a glass of water, not under their pillows, and “put a drink out of Perez” in case he gets thirsty. Besides, Perez is called merely the “magic mouse” in some Hispanic cultures, and not by his own name.
